Advantages of the TOPEX SRT 100 System

The clinical objective of the TOPEX SRT 100 System is to effectively treat skin cancer through non-invasive therapeutic x-ray procedures with improved cosmetic outcomes. Meeting this objective provides advantages to Patients, Physicians, Healthcare Providers and Insurance Payers that include the following:

For the Patient

The procedure is accurate, safe and pain-free. Superficial radiation therapy is a proven procedure for treating skin cancer and has a lower potential for cosmetic issues and a high cure rate history of effectiveness. The insurance industry, including Medicare part B widely accepts this procedure for reimbursement.

For the Physician

The TOPEX system provides regulated kV mA treatment accuracy. The design of the x-ray applicators provides visibility of the treated area. The mobility of the system and the unique scissor arm provide a large range of motion for easy patient access and positioning.

For the Provider

As a dedicated system to treat skin cancer, the facility can increase patient referrals. The purchase or lease price of the TOPEX system provides the advantage of low capital investment and payback period. The ease of use with the automatic set-up procedures and system warm-up conditioning improves patient scheduling and overall department productivity. The TOPEX system has no special environmental requirements such as special power sources or toxic waste disposal. The system is mobile with a 29″X30″ footprint requiring minimal floor space compared to older conventional systems.

For the Payer

Superficial x-ray therapy is an alternative to surgery and provides improved cosmetic results and a high cure rate history of effectiveness. As a proven technology, reimbursement codes have been established and include: 77261 for Therapeutic Radiation Treatment Planning and 77401 for Radiation Treatment Delivery.

Specifications

The SRT 100 has been developed to provide the following unique operational advantages:

  • Easy touch automatic set-up procedure with specific kV-mA time technique factors and filter designed for effective skin cancer treatment, including automatic x-ray tube warm-up procedures. (another image)
  • Special x-ray applicators that provide visual verification and margin clearance of the treated areas, including safety disposal tips.
  • Automatic Warm-Up Modes
  • Automatic Filter Selection
  • Standard Wall Socket Plug-in Operation
  • Specially designed control console for physicists and service technicians providing integrated safety and back-up timer controls, automatic system conditioning procedures, calibration, x-ray output verification and system parameters including last treatment status information. (another image)
  • Compact mobile design with a 29"X30" footprint and unique scissor x-ray tube arm movements providing a large range of motion for patient access and treatment.

TOPEX technology is based on several needs requirements. The most prevalent is the need for a current dedicated skin cancer treatment device. There have been little to no new developments in superficial radiation therapy systems in recent years. The earlier devices were developed to provide therapeutic services for treating a number of cancer conditions and have been replaced by other modalities and/or specialized procedures. However, the primary use for these older systems today is skin cancer treatment. Consequently, many systems still in operation are antiquated by today’s standards in terms of system operation, long set-up procedures, large space requirements, parts availability and ongoing costly maintenance to insure continued operation and that product safety requirements are met for both the patient and clinician.
